  • Assistant Area Coordinator
    August 2022 - Present

I am an Assistant Area Coordinator at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Housing and Residential Life department).

As an AAC, my responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing administrative tasks within the HRL department, helping with training and staff meetings, holding office hours, serving on the Professional on Duty rotation to deal with emergency situations, creating large scale programs, following up and reporting maintenance issues, enforcing university and housing policies, helping facilitate the development of a welcoming and inclusive community, helping manage a staff of approximately 40 RAs that oversee about 1,500 residents, and advising students on personal/academic/social matters.

In a sense, I act as a RA for other RAs!

    Undergraduate Researcher
    May 2022 - August 2022

I was an undergraduate researcher at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

I worked for the Undergraduate Research Institute at ERAU during the summer of 2022. As a part of this project, I worked with Dr. Yabin Liao to conduct research into the use of machine learning to predict vibrations in airplane wings. We also submitted a paper to the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition. I will be flying out to Columbus, Ohio in October to present our paper! More details about this project can be found in the project tab.

    Resident Assistant
    August 2021 - May 2022

I was a Resident Assistant (RA) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for the school year 2021-2022.

My main responsibility was to uphold the three core values of the ERAU Housing and Residential Life (HRL) department: Customer Service, Care, and Connections.

Formally, we saw our residents (and students) as customers and made sure that they were informed about the policies and procedures of the university. As employees, we tried our best to fulfill any request that they may have. We helped our residents thrive academically, professionally, and personally by building connections with peers and ERAU resources. We also made bulletin boards and held programs. These could either to be raise awareness about things such as domestic violence and diversity or to help build crucial skills such as presentation and interviewing skills. Most importantly, we genuinely cared about our residents and want to make sure that we are able to do what we need to do to make sure they are successful both at ERAU and when they eventually left ERAU.

For me personally (and informally), I saw a lot of the residents as young adults that I really care about and want to make sure that they become strong, capable young individuals. I loved chatting with them, holding events, and just generally being there when they may need something. Especially since my background contains a lot of educating kids both academically and socially, I really want to make sure that my residents were successful and flourished during their time in college. In summary, I just wanted to be there for them when they need me much like a mentor, teacher, or even a parent.

    Instructor
    2013 - June 2019

I was an instructor at Inspiration Martial Arts (IMA) from late 2013ish to June 2019.

I started on the path of becoming an instructor in 2013 when I first joined IMA's JTI/CTI program (Junior/Certified Training Instructor). In this program, I learned about how teaching students wasn't just about teaching them martial arts skills, but also life skills such as honesty, integrity, perserverance, courtesy and respect. I initially started as a junior instructor who would assist a certified instructor during classes and help fix any mistakes that I would see as well as help with various miscellaneous tasks. As time went on, I progressed from assisting during class to teaching segments of class and eventually teaching entire classes with another junior instructor helping me. I become a certified training instructor in 2019 and achieved the instructional rank of "black collar." While teaching, I also pursued by own personal taekwondo development as well and achieved the rank of third degree black belt.

Taekwondo really helped me become a more well rounded personal as I used to be very shy and reclusive. This forced me to be more outgoing and comfortable with talking with others. I learned how to express myself and teach in a variety of perspectives, so I could always get my point across regardless of who I was talking to. As an engineer, this still is very important as you want to make sure non-engineers can understand what concept you are proposing. Although I am still a quiet person, I feel comfortable engaging with others and leading when needed.

I honestly wouldn't be who I am today without the many skills that I learned during my time at IMA.

Volunteer and Founder of Homework Help
    June 2016 - July 2019

I volunteered at the Mesquite Library (part of the Phoenix Public Libraries) by helping with various tasks/programs and by holding a homework help program for students. I would normally volunteer over the summer and sometimes help during the school year as well.

I first started as a summer volunteer in June 2016. As a summer teen volunteer, we were responsible for shelving items, assisting customers, and organizing the library inventory. In the following summers, I would also help with various programs that the library held. This included story time, STEM events, sustainability programs, and introducing coding to young students.

I also believe that educating the youth is very important, so in Winter 2018, I ran for the position of president for the National Honor Society at BASIS Phoenix with the goal of creating a homework help program that students at local schools could go to. I was unsucessful at my goal for presidency, but I didn't let that discourage me. I formed my own Education Committee as a part of the NHS, and I proposed my idea to the Mesquite Library and was successful. Along with a few other members, we tutored kids 1 day a week from around the beginning of Spring in 2018 to the end of Spring in 2019. Although we didn't get too many students, I was still glad that we were making a difference and getting emails from students for homework help always brought a smile to my face.

    Teacher's Assistant
    August 2018 - February 2019

I was a Teacher's Assistant (TA) for Mr. Akash Joseph for 6th and 7th grade physics. I helped him grade papers, answer questions during class, help students during office hours, and create answer keys.

Being a TA made me realize how demanding of a job teacher's had. They had to grade hundreds of papers a week, teaching multiple hours a day, hold office hours, attend staff and parent meetings, advise clubs, and so much more. It truly made me admire teachers since they always put in more work than necessary to better support their students.

Mr. Joseph was also a former graduate of ERAU, so I learned a lot from him about the school and aerospace engineering. He definitely played a big role in me deciding what to do and where to go for college.
